When, usually around the Christmas period, I travel to the Alps, I love to arrive via one city and leave by another, thus adding two extra dimensions to the trip. After all, I am travelling quite a vast distance to get here, so in the finest old school traditions, I like to make a bit of a journey out of it. Travelling out of Milan by train, through the Italian Lakes and the impressive Lake Maggiore, alighting at Thyon/Sion and catching the bus up to Les Collons - Returning via Lausanne and out through Geneva, it gives the trip a more rounded feel and increases the opportunity for memory gathering.
Sometimes it's about getting there, sometimes it's about being there, and sometimes it's both. At these moments I choose to stay self contained and away from the masses and I book a family sized chalet in Les Collons called Chalet Datcha.
Thyon / Les Collons is part of the 4 Valleys skiing region benefitting from over 400kms of pistes and 100 ski lifts, with the Trabanta Chairlift only a few short steps from Chalet Datcha itself. It's the location of the chalet that is one of its key selling points. It is right in the heart of everything Les Collons has to offer. Not only is it close to the ski lift, but it is also a snowballs throw from several supermarkets, a bakery, shops, a bank, bars and restaurants.
The Chalet can sleep up to eight, with 2 double/twin and two bunk/twin berths available. 2 bathrooms, one with shower and one with bath/shower, fully equiped kitchen, wood burning stove, 250 channels available in the TV room, dining room, garden and 1 free parking space with other available on request.
Chalet Datcha is the perfect spot if you're a keen skier, just want to get away from life below, to experience the clean air and stunning views through to the Matterhorn, or are holidaying during the summer months. Switzerland in the summer is idyllic in itself and with very favourable summer rates available, Chalet Datcha is a wonderful option. The self contained and centrally located chalet is a perfect spot for both regular and new visitors to the Alpine region and as it fulfils so many of my own personal requirements when booking a holiday home from home, I shall be returning often during the seasons ahead.
Bookings available on request at the Chalet Datcha website, but should be made early to acquire any discounted rates available and to avoid disappointment, as the property is in high demand.
